About The Cottage

Up to 6 guests across three bedrooms: a double bedroom (4 ft 6 in bed) and a twin bedroom with two 3ft single beds on the first floor, plus a second double (4 ft 6 in bed) on the second floor.

Bedroom 1 (double) and Bedroom 2 (twin) are on the first floor, along with the shower room. Bedroom 3, a double with Velux windows that are perfect for stargazing, is on the second floor and is reached through the twin bedroom. This works well for couples or families, but it’s worth knowing if you’re booking with friends who’d like more separation.

One. The shower room is on the first floor, with a cubicle shower, sink, heated towel rail and toilet.

There is an electric oven, electric hob, microwave , toaster, kettle and fridge, all with a beautiful lake and mountain view from the window. Guests often spot birds while making breakfast.

The kitchen is well-stocked with crockery, glasses (including tumblers, wine glasses and prosecco flutes) cutlery, pots and pans so you will have everything you need for self-catering. We also provide cleaning products, cloths and tea towels. You just need to take your favourite things like salt and pepper, condiments, tea, coffee and sugar and you’re good to go!

Yes, the cosy lounge has an open fire that flows into the dining area. There is a fire guard which you must use if you have children in the family.

Please bring your own fire wood and firelighters if you would like to use the fire. There is a house in the village close to the play area, on the corner, that does sometimes have firewood for sale but we can’t guarantee it is available (they also sell fresh eggs, too!).

No, the cottage is non-smoking throughout the property.

Families & Children

Very much so. It’s a traditional cottage in a quiet village setting, with a children’s play area and a café a few minutes’ walk away. It’s also within easy reach of some of North Wales’s best family days out, including Greenwood Family Park, Zip World, Gypsy Wood Park, the Mountain Railways and sandy beaches. With three bedrooms and a lakeside garden, it’s a great base for family holidays.

Yes, both are available. Please let us know when you book so we can have them ready for you. A fire guard is also available. All of these items are free-of-charge.

The twin room (two 3ft single beds) is a natural choice for two children. Bedroom 3 on the second floor is reached through the twin room, so some families put older children or teens up there, while parents with younger children often prefer to keep everyone on the first floor. A travel cot can be set up wherever suits you best.

Lots. Within walking distance, Nantlle village has a children’s play area and a café. A short drive away you’ll find Dinas Dinlle, a sandy beach with parking (about 15 minutes). Black Rock Sands, a beach you can drive onto (about 20 minutes’ drive south), is always a big hit, as are the Mountain Railways, Greenwood Family Park, Zip World and Gypsy Wood Park. Caernarfon Castle is a classic day out too.

The cottage sits on a quiet country lane, and the garden is fully enclosed. Please note that the garden has 7 steps, the cottage is close to Nantlle Lake, and there are working farms and livestock nearby, so as with any holiday home, we recommend supervising young children, particularly outdoors.

We also recommend using the fireguard with young children and/or pets in the cottage. There is a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs only.

Many families do. The Rhyd Ddu and Snowdon Ranger paths are both about a 10-minute drive from the cottage and are among the quieter routes up the mountain. Choose your route to suit the age and ability of your group, and for a gentler day out, the Slate Trails offer walking routes for all abilities.

Dogs

Yes, we’re a dog-friendly cottage and up to 2 dogs are welcome.

Yes, there’s a secure bike store, and a bike, boot and dog wash area to clean up after muddy rides and walks.

We’d recommend one. Nantlle village has a café, yoga studio and play area within walking distance, but for supermarkets, beaches and attractions you’ll want a car. Penygroes (10 minutes away) has a Co-op, cafés and everyday shops.

Yes, the village is part of the Route G4 which runs from Caernarfon Bus Station to Nantlle (Ysgol Baladeulyn) and takes approximately 30 mins each way.

Things To Do

That depends on your trip. Many guests come to climb Snowdon, cycle the Ffordd Brailsford Way, walk the Slate Trails or fish the lake, and just as many come to slow down by the fire and enjoy the view.

Within the village there is a children’s play area, the lake and a lovely little cafe called Plobado Coffi.

You can also walk the slate route through to Pen-y-Groes. This is about 5 miles round trip but a lovely, easy path with views of the quarry (you can also easily drive here for a co-op, leisure centre, takeaways and other cafes).

The Rhyd Ddu and Snowdon Ranger paths are both about 10 minutes’ drive from the cottage, over the scenic mountain pass. Set off early, and you could be back for a coffee in the garden by early afternoon

Yes, anglers can fish the lake just behind the cottage with a local permit. You can purchase a permit at the nearest public house – the CWellyn Arms in Rhyd Ddu.

Yes, you can however, please be advised that this is entirely at your own risk and their are no lifeguards at the site.

There is actually a local group who meet at the Poblado Coffi at 10am on Saturdays for coffee, a run, a swim and more coffee if you would like to join in! Please contact the cafe to check details. You can visit their website here.

Road cyclists can join the Ffordd Brailsford Way directly from the cottage, including the Drws-y-Coed climb. The Lôn Eifion trail offers a quieter, traffic-free route towards Caernarfon, and the Slate Trails make great bike-hike routes.

Plenty. Caernarfon Castle, the historic slate attractions, the Mountain Railways, Zip World, Greenwood Family Park and Gypsy Wood Park are all within easy reach, or you can stay in by the open fire. In nearby Porthmadog you’ll find lots of shops, and the Italian-inspired village of Portmeirion is a lovely day out.
